Feelings of hopelessness, sadness, emptiness or constant feelings of worry and restlessness can keep you from experiencing one of life’s greatest gifts; the present. By incorporating our shared Catholic faith and techniques derived from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and EMDR Therapy, we will work together to find effective ways to help you cope.
Grief occurs in response to the loss of a loved one through death, but it can also take place in response to unexpected life changes such as divorce, ending of a relationship, or change in profession/employment. Here, you can learn how to walk through the stages of grief in a way that is emotionally healthy.
Marriage, becoming parents, divorce, decree of nullity, starting/finishing college, a career change, becoming an empty nester, or retiring, are a few of the life transitions that can take a toll on our emotional well-being. We can walk through this season together, implementing coping skills that align with your faith and values.
Parenting is one of life’s greatest joys, but it can also be extremely challenging. Adding to those challenges are if you are single parenting or co-parenting. By utilizing techniques derived from an attachment-based perspective, we can explore, identify, and address how to nurture one of the most important relationships you will have; the relationship with your child, so that together you will lead a happy, healthy, and fulfilled life.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR): Rather than utilizing talk therapy, EMDR therapy focuses on reprocessing of the traumatic event through bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements). EMDR provides you the opportunity to reprocess information by activating neural networks in the brain. By utilizing this process, negative feelings associated with the memory of the traumatic event will diminish and instead will be replaced with an adaptive memory, thereby allowing healing of emotional wounds. EMDR can assist with treating conditions such as trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, insecure attachment, unresolved childhood trauma, and betrayal trauma.
Abuse, exposure to violence, betrayal, accidents, natural disasters, childhood trauma, and separation from caregiver, are some of the few unfortunate circumstances that cause trauma. Trauma can significantly impact your daily life, self-esteem, and the ability to build trust in future relationships. Through a process called Faith Based Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing, I can help you alleviate trauma symptoms and find a path to healing.
